What is Happening?

Whew. Deep Breath. Inhale. Exhale. Breathe. [Repeat]

It was Saturday morning. A load of laundry in the machine [check]. Bagel toasted and ready for cream cheese [check]. But my soul is yearning to know, “What is happening?”

I have intentionally avoided any television broadcasts of national news regarding recent violence and death of minority males and police officers. However, my Facebook and Instagram keep me abreast of what, indeed, is happening.

Film viewing challenge: Mississippi Burning (1988) . The following quote is found on the back of the DVD case: “ranks as one of the most potent and insightful views of racial turmoil yet produced” (Variety).

Understanding vs. Conviction (Google Definitions)

Understanding Definition

Conviction Definition

Application: As I increase in my understanding of love, faith, and forgiveness, my personal opinion in regard to the value of [my people’s] past becomes more of a conviction for making each day of my life count toward the betterment of the human race. T.R.Mason

“Our Negro problem, therefore, is not of the Negro’s making. No group in our population is less responsible for its existence. But every group is responsible for its continuance…. Both races need to understand that their rights and duties are mutual and equal and their interests in the common good are identical…. There is no help or healing in appraising past responsibilities or in present apportioning of praise or blame. The past is of value only as it aids in understanding the present; and an understanding of the facts of the problem–a magnanimous understanding by both races–is the first step toward its solution.”
